Lien Doan Announcement - Eagle Scout Abigail Nguyen

Dear Chi Lang Parents and Scouts,

Congratulations to Abby Nguyen for being our troop's first girl to attain the rank of Eagle Scout!

Abby's Eagle Project involved her leading a team of volunteers from Kha Thanh to build beautiful wood trellis fence walls for the Tustin Boys and Girls Club, using materials she obtained through fundraising and donations from Home Depot and Lowe's.

Abby loves being a part of the scouting community. She has been a scout since she was 6 years old with Lien Doan Lac Viet in Houston, and she joined Lien Doan Chi Lang in 2018 at 14 years old. Despite joining us as an older youth, Abby quickly became good friends with her peers and grew to become one of our most prominent scouts. When BSA began to accept girls in 2018, Abby was among the first generation of girls to set their goal in achieving the Eagle Scout Rank. She also served as Vice President of Programs for Crew, participated in the 24th World Scout Jamboree in 2019, and has expressed her desire to continue scouting activities into adulthood.

Besides scouting, Abby volunteers with the Sunflower Organization which empowers students in Vietnam by building schools, awarding scholarships, and providing learning opportunities. She went to Vietnam to help build schools in remote poor villages. We are extremely proud of Abby for her achievements. We have no doubt she will succeed in whatever she chooses to do in the future. We wish her success in all her endeavors.

We congratulate Abby’s parents, Anh Binh and Chi Hoa, and her big sister Emily!

Dear Chi Lang Parents and Scouts,

Congratulations to Eric Vo for earning his Eagle Award on July 29, 2020. For his Eagle Project, Eric coordinated and led a blood drive with the hospital he frequently volunteers at. He is currently attending UC Los Angeles and has goals to work as a healthcare provider. Eric has served three terms on Crew's Key 5, having been both the Executive Vice President and the President. He is a great role model and mentor to the younger scouts and his contributions to the program has encouraged our scouts to deepen their friendships. We are so proud to have Eric as a member of our Chi Lang family.

We also send our congratulations to Tr. Quy, Chi My Linh, and sisters, our former Au’s phụ tá Trưởng Michelle and Jenny.

Congratulations to Patrick Ly for earning his Eagle Award. Patrick led the construction of storage shelves for his temple. He has been a hardworking scout all the way from Au to Crew, while leading his school’s tuba line at the same time. He is currently attending UC Riverside as a business major. Patrick is a kind and helpful person, going out of his way to help anyone he can no matter what, and he truly embodies the spirit of leadership. We are so proud to have Patrick a part of our Chi Lang family!

Our Lien Doan will be on a summer break for the next 2 weeks. We will not meet this Sunday 6/27 and next Sunday 7/4. For the following week of 7/10-11, Thieu & KT will have sleepover. Au Doan will announce their 7/11 plan via Au’s Groupme.

We will resume our regular meeting with Hop LD Sunday 7/18.

Thank you everyone for a beautiful Memorial Day Camp! Thank you cac Truong for helping to execute a very jammed pack Tro Choi Lon for cac em Doan Sinh! After a year of missing scouting activities, we couldn’t have been more prouder to see cac em with so much scouting spirit! We were impressed that many still remember their scouting skills, leading a patrol, cooking, first aid, morse codes, semaphores, and lashing! Our appreciation to our parents for taking care of our bellies as always with yummy food, as well as helping us keep the camp clean and organized allowing us Truongs time to take care of the scouts.

Congratulations to our 2021 Girl Scout Silver Award Recipients!
And a big thank you to our Silver Award Recipients’ parents for helping us celebrate our wonderful girl scouts for their meaningful Silver Award Service Projects!

Congratulations also go to the many Doan Sinh for successfully earned their advancements in Au, Thieu, and Kha Thanh!

We will have Hop Doan for all Nganh this week, Sunday, 5/23/21 9am-12pm at Los Alamos Park, Fountain Valley. Please note meeting time starts at 9am.

Memorial Day Camp Information:

We are proud to announce the Theme for this Memorial Camp: “WE ARE VIETNAMESE!”. We hope to impress on our young scouts the resilient and determined character of the Vietnamese people through this camp’s Tro Choi Lon, incorporating scouting spirits and skills.

Date: Saturday, 05/29 to 05/30
Location: Little Oaks, (Part of Oak Canyon Park-5305 E Santiago Canyon Rd, Silverado)
Cost: $15 per person ($10 pp for campground fee + $5 pp for LD dinner). We will be collecting the fees this Sunday, OR Zelle option to chilang279and1279@gmail.com (Memo: Name & Family ID)
Please register at https://chilang1279.org. Deadline to register is Sunday, 5/23/2021.
SPECIAL NOTE: Due Covid-19 precaution and safety of our scouts, overnight tenting is with your own family only or arranged as per parents’ own discretion. Parents are responsible for the supervision of your children overnight.
In order for the scouts to have full camp experience, we request all to stay overnight.
Environment Conservation Service Hour at Camp: help pick up dead branches and leaves at camp
- Sunday morning- time 8:30am-9:30

- Thu Thach sign-ups: If you’re done or close to being done with your Khoa, please be sure to notify Tr. Cuong or Tr. Chris to be put on the schedule for Thu Thach at Camp.

- This is a great opportunity for scouts to enjoy high adventure outdoor activities, bond with friends, earn merit badges, and build lifelong memories in scouting.

- While many adults in our Lien Doan have been vaccinated, and the rate of infection in OC has been dramatically decreased, we are still in a pandemic. In order for us to provide a safe environment for everyone, especially our scouts, please kindly read and acknowledge Covid-19 information and sign LD waiver prior to attending the camp event. We encourage masks and social distancing at this event, especially if you’re not fully vaccinated. Also, if you or your child are not feeling well, please refrain from attending the camp. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Chi Lang Parents and Scouts,

Join Us for
Hiking & Beach Day
Crystal Cove State Park

8471 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach CA 92651
(The park is located off Pacific Coast Highway between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach.)
Sunday, April 18; Please meet by 8:00; Hiking will start at 8:15 AM
No Scout Uniform needed. Wear hiking shoes, hat, mask. Bring water, sunblock lotion.
Beach Day starts after hiking (Don’t forget to bring your beach gears).
Please register at https://chilang1279.org

Use GPS to get directions to the Crystal Cove Moro Campground (8471 N. Coast Highway, Laguna Beach).
Meet at the picnic gazebo in the Day Use Area.
Additional Directions:
- From Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), turn on El Moro School/State Park.
- Follow the narrow driveway up the hill as you pass El Moro School on your right.
- Bear to your right and keep driving until you are greeted by a park ranger at the entrance booth.
- Pay or show your pass, then head to the “Day Use Area” which is straight ahead and then downhill.
- As you approach a junction with a STOP sign, keep straight to go to the bottom of the hill.
- Find a parking space and meet us at the big wooden gazebo with concrete picnic tables.
- The gazebo is right across from the ramp leading to the tunnel for beach access.
- If you get lost, call Tr. Hanh at 714-478-2088 or anh Hiến at 714-287-5154.
